Frequently asked
How long does a removal take?
Initial requests are filed within 24 hours of a confirmed match. Brokers are required by GDPR / CCPA to respond within 30 days, and most do so within 14. For stubborn brokers we escalate, supply evidence, and — where necessary — file a regulator complaint on your behalf. Average time-to-clean across our customer base is 9 days; the long tail of difficult brokers is 30 to 90.
What data does Ghost monitor?
Names (including prior names), email addresses (current and historical), phone numbers, postal addresses, dates of birth, social-media handles, employer names, and aliases — and any combination of those across 1,200+ data brokers, people-search sites, public registries, breach archives, paste sites, and dark-web mirrors.
What sources do you cover?
The full list is available under NDA. As a headline: every major US people-search site, every major EU data broker, the leading breach indexers, the top paste sites, dozens of Telegram channels, and a curated set of dark-web markets and forums. We add new sources roughly twice a month based on customer demand and threat-intel signals.
How accurate is the matching?
We use multi-signal identity matching with confidence scoring. A single weak signal is filed as 'suspected' and flagged for human review. We surface a match in your dashboard only when at least two independent identifiers agree. False positives are tracked as a product metric and reviewed monthly.
Will Ghost remove me from Google?
We file the right kind of removal request with each source. For search results, we use Google's right-to-be-forgotten process (where you qualify) and the Google personal-information removal request (where you do not). We follow up until search no longer surfaces the underlying source pages.
Can Ghost help with a current threat — stalking, doxxing, harassment?
Yes. Active-threat customers are routed to an emergency analyst within one hour of contacting support@useghost.me. We expedite removals on the identifiers at greatest risk and coordinate with law enforcement, victim-support charities, and your employer's security team where appropriate.
How do I add or remove an identifier?
From Dashboard → Identifiers. Add an email, phone, address, alias, or name and Ghost will begin scanning within minutes. Remove an identifier at any time; we purge it from active systems within 30 days and from backups within 90.
How do I cancel?
From Billing in your dashboard. Cancel any time, no questions. Cancelling stops future scans and removals immediately; we keep your case history for 24 months in case you reactivate, after which we delete unless you ask us to delete sooner.
Will brokers re-add me?
Some will. That is why we re-scan on a rolling schedule (weekly on Premium, monthly on Intelligence) and reopen cases automatically when a broker republishes your data. The product is continuous, not a one-time scrub.
Do you sell my data?
Never. Ghost only reads public sources and breach databases on your behalf. Your information stays on Ghost's encrypted infrastructure and is never sold, rented, shared with advertisers, or used to train AI models.
Where is my data stored?
EU (Frankfurt) by default for European customers, US (Northern Virginia) by default for US customers. Region is selected at signup and immutable for the life of the account.
Is there a mobile app?
Yes — Ghost is available on iOS and Android, with feature parity to the web dashboard. Alerts can be delivered as push notifications or email; you choose per category.
Getting started: the first 24 hours
- Add your identifiers — name, current and prior emails, phone numbers, and postal addresses. The more identifiers you add, the more complete the scan.
- Run your initial scan. Premium customers see first-cut results within an hour. Intelligence customers within 24 hours.
- Review and approve removals. For most exposures Ghost can submit on your behalf with one click. For removals requiring a copy of ID (a small minority of brokers), we walk you through what is needed.
- Set your notification preferences. Email, push, or both. You can switch per category — exposures, removals confirmed, dark-web alerts, billing.
Self-serve resources
- Knowledge base — searchable articles on every common task, available from the "Help" menu inside the dashboard.
- Status page — live status for every Ghost service, with incident history and maintenance windows.
- Privacy and data controls — export, delete, and consent management from Dashboard → Settings → Privacy.
- Security reporting — coordinated disclosure for good-faith researchers; see security@useghost.me.
